Plea for CBI probe into ADM’s death

Kochi: Manjusha, widow of a senior official of Kerala state government Naveen Babu, has moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the death of her husband who was found dead in controversial circumstances in his quarters in Kannur on October 15 in 2024.
Seeking a probe by the central agency, Naveen Babu, who was the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Kannur, Manjusha, who is a gazetted official in Kerala government, alleged that the probe conducted by the state police was not convincing.
Pleas for a CBI probe by her were rejected by Kerala High Court.
Former Kannur district panchayat president P P Divya has been made the sole accused in the case for abetting the death of Naveen Babu.
Despite being not invited, Divya had barged into a farewell meeting arranged for Naveen Babu in connection with his transfer to Pathanamthitta on October 14 and accused him as a corrupt official.
He was found dead the next day. Subsequently she was arrested and released on bail.
A probe conducted by the revenue department found that Naveen was an honest official and was not corrupt.
There are also allegations that Naveen Babu was murdered and hanged even as there are many unanswered questions regarding evidence collection by the police.
Meanwhile, the chargesheet against Divya has been filed in Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate court.
