Kochi: About less than an year after parting ways during 2024 Lok Sabha polls, AIADMK has returned to the NDA led by BJP whose Tamil Nadu chief K Annammalai has been replaced by a new president Nainar Nagenthran.
AIADMK had blamed Annamalai for showing little importance to late Chief Miniaters Annadurai and Jayalalirhha for the collapse of the tie up which helped DMK to sweep the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP and AIADMK inked the alliance on Friday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah who brought about Annamalai to quit the seat for new nominee who was earlier with the AIADMK.
The new alliance is adamant to capture power 2026 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu to rewrite history of BJP sharing power in Tamil Nadu for the first time.
Congress, AIADMK, DMK have been sharing power since the last several decades in the state.AIADMK seems to have realised the increasing influence of the saffron party in the state where the dravidian parties are losing ground after the demise of MGR, Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi.
Speaking at a press conference post inking of the alliance on Friday, Shah declared that a โcoalition governmentโ would be formed after the elections.
Shah said the 2026 election will be fought under the leadership of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. The two parties are likely to highlight DMKโs alleged misrule to the hilt to flush it out of power.
The BJP, AIADMK will take up DMK government negatives like law and order failure, attacks on Dalits and women, attack on Sanatan dharma, delimitation, NEET.
Nagenthran is the only person to file nomination for the post of BJP State unit president. A former AIADMK Minister, Nagendran joined the BJP in 2017. His nomination was endorsed by Annamalai and others.
