Kochi: The Kerala High Court has patted the frontline workers for working hard to douse fire at Brahmapuram waste dumping yard at Kerala’s commercial capital of Kochi.
The court said they would be honoured for their performance, media reports said. The court’s observation came in the wake of Ernakulam District Collector, NSK Umesh and Secretary of the Cochin Municipal Corporation, Babu Abdul Khader, informing the court about putting out the fire at the dump site.
The court asked the Director General, Kerala Fire and Rescue Services to convey its appreciation to each one of the personnel. A 48-hour vigil would be observed even as the blaze and shouldering have been arrested, the Collector said.
The Collector informed the court about the measures to be taken in the event of similar incidents happening in the future. The Collector said the Air Quality had reached normal level.
The High Court had taken suo motu steps after the fire broke out at Brahmapuram on March 2 causing health hazards to the people, forcing many to seek medical attention and many escaping to safe zones, the reports said.
The court has recorded the short-term and term-long measures suggested by the District Collector and the Additional Chief Secretary.
The matter will be further heard on March 21.
