Nod to prosecute Veena T

Kochi: The centre has given nod to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) to go ahead with proceedings to prosecute Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena T in the CMRL payoff case, media reports said.
The permission was granted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on Thursday.
The trial proceedings will commence at the economic crimes court in Kochi.
Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) investigation found that Veena’s company, Exalogic, now defunct, allegedly received Rs 2.70 crore without providing any services.
If proven guilty, the accused can be sentenced upto 10 years in jail. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs granted approval to prosecute those uncluding Veena Vijayan, CMRL Managing Director Sasidharan Kartha, and CMRL Chief General Manager of Finance P Suresh Kumar.
The charges are framed under Section 447 of the Companies Act, which stipulates a prison term ranging from six months to ten years. The SFIO started its probe in January, 2024.
