Relief for CMRL scam accused

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday ordered to maintain status quo for two months in the CMRL pay off case against Kerala Chief Minister’s daughter Veena T and others being probed by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) and others, media reports said.
A single bench passed the interim order while hearing a plea of Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) and others challenging the order passed by the Additional District and Sessions Judge-VII, Ernakulam, of April 11 taking cognizance of the investigation report submitted by the SFIO accusing Veena getting financial benefits of over Rs 1.72 crore without providing any service.
The High Court said that the petitioner raised fundamental questions of law which needed to be considered.
The single-judge directed that the matter be listed once the Court reopens after the summer vacation.
The SFIO is probing alleged financial fraud of ₹197.7 crore, which included payments to Veena T, her company Exalogic Solutions and others.
CMRL is a public limited company based in Kerala and engaged in the manufacture of synthetic rutile and other industrial chemicals.
