Kochi: Two Australian women of Jewish origin were booked for tearing off posters in support of Palestine near a boat jetty at the Global tourist center of Fort Kochi, media reports said.
The FIR was registered by the Fort Kochi police based on a complaint made by Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, who had pasted the posters without taking permission from the local body.
The FIR under IPC section 153 does not mention the names of the tourists who were later released.
According to police, the tourists engaged in a heated argument with the women on the issue on Monday night.
The SIO barged into the police station and protested for a long time seeking action against the tourists.
Interestingly, police have not taken action against those who had pasted posters.
