Kochi: A court in Kolkata on Monday sentenced a security guard Sanjay Roy to life term in jail for raping and murdering a young doctor of RG Kar Hospital last year, media reports said.
The Additional District and Sessions, Sealdah, court, had convicted Roy the other day.
The court relied on forensic reports before delivering the verdict.
Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, said in the court that he was innocent and was being framed while “real criminals are roaming free”.
The CBI’s 45 page charge sheet said that the victim’s blood was found on accused Sanjay Roy’s jeans and shoes. His hair and a Bluetooth earpiece that synced with his cellphone were also found from the crime scene, the chargesheet noted.
Roy claimed that the allegations against him were false and alleged mistreatment. He claimed he was
not allowed to speak and was tortured. He said he was forced to sign documents under duress. Roy also accused the CBI of denying medical facilities.
