Twenty20 subsidy food stopped

Kochi: Twenty20 will stop selling heavily subsidised food at Kizhakambalam in Ernakulam untill elections are over, media reports said.

This is following the direction of Election authorities based on complaints from political parties accusing Twenty20 of violating the code of conduct.

This was CPM’s gift to the beneficiaries for the new year, Twenty20 chief coordinator Sabu M Jacob said.

He alleged that the CPM was among those behind the act of depriving cheap food for people.

He said the election commission issued order on April 2 and it was purposely delayed till April 12 for the courts to go on vaccation.

Recently a subsidised medical shop opened by twenty20 was closed on the complaint of CPM and others.

However, the High Court revoked the order and allowed Twenty20 to restart it.

Twenty20 was floated by Kitex group promoter Sabu as a non profit organisation to help the people of Kunnathunad taluk in Ernakulam.

Later, Twenty20 contested panchayat elections and won convincingly in four.

Kitex is world’s largest readymade garment exporter.

Twenty20 started the subsidised food distrubution in 2014.
