Kochi: The President Droupadi Murmu signed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, making it a law, media reports said.
The bill was passed by Parliament through heated debates with the Congress led opposition resisting its clearance.
The centre claims that the Act aims would reform the governance of waqf properties, enhance transparency in dealings, and ensure representation from different Muslim sects in waqf boards.
The centre claimed that the Act would safeguard heritage sites, improve social welfare, including Muslim widows and divorcees.
