Kochi: Iran has gone on war with Israel by launching missile attacks which were neutralized by Tel Aviv which is about 1,800 kms away from Iran, media reports said.
The attack was aimed at “specific targets” in which over 100 drones were used. The US, which had announced support to Israel, shot down a few.
Israel, Lebanon and Iraq closed their airspaces. Syria and Jordan are on air alert. Israeli air force planes were ready to counter any threat, the reports said. Israel had deployed its defensive systems, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
The attack is a retaliation to the attack on the Iranian Embassy in Syria on April 1 that killed a top Iranian general and six military officers.
Iran blames Israel for the attack and criticised the UN Security Council for not condemning the strike.Even as Israel has not owned up attacking the consulate in Syria, Tel Aviv said it is ready to defend itself amidst ongoing military operations in Gaza.
While countries like Russia, Britain and Germany have appealed for peace in the region, the US has warned Iran against any aggression against Israel.
Iran supports Hamas of Palestine and other proxy groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon constantly fighting against Israel.
